Rock the Vote!!

Project Based Learning or PBL, is in full swing in third grade! Our PBL will give our students the opportunity to experience a real-life election process and all that goes with it. Our students are going to elect a candy candidate from either the Chewy Party or the Chocolate Party. The driving question, which is the purpose for our PBL, is: Why should citizens exercise their right to vote in elections? Our students are now registered voters, with their own registration card! They will have to show this card in order to vote on November 8! All other Intermediate grade levels and Intermediate staff will be voting as well. Our election candidates are:

Chewy Party: Presidential candidate: Sour Patch Kids Vice Presidential Running Mate: Gummy Worms

Chocolate Party: Presidential Candidate: Kit Kat Vice Presidential Running Mate: Hershey’s Chocolate

Our third graders will also help work on the campaign of their chosen candidate. There are many opportunities for them to focus their Genius (www.twitter.com @Angela Maiers) and strengths in the following campaign jobs: Speech Committee, Advertising Committee, Poling Place Committee, Slogan Committee and Vocabulary/ Word Wall/ Sandwich Board Committee. 

Our grade level was also fortunate to have 2 members of the middle school student council come and speak about their campaign experience. Thank you Mrs. Shellhorse for organizing this! Those young ladies were wonderful to listen to!

We can’t wait to see who wins but more importantly, how much these children learn about the election process! Please discuss our PBL with your child and remind them to ROCK THE VOTE!
